Position Title: Associate Pastor (planned succession to Senior Pastor)

Statement of Intent:

Background: Our Senior Pastor, Ron McDugle, has informed us of his intention to resign from First Baptist Danville at the end of May, 2009.

Why Pastor is resigning: Pastor McDugle had set this date long ago as a way to “downsize” his responsibility as he moves into his senior years. Pastor McDugle has also made it clear that he does not intend to stay in Danville, Indiana. He is convinced that it is best for the church and his replacement not to continue to be a part of the ministry here at FBD. Reluctantly, we accept his decision.

Strategy: Our strategy is to select the next Associate Pastor with the plan of him becoming the Senior Pastor when Pastor McDugle’s resignation becomes effective on May 31, 2009. The vote to call this Associate Pastor is also the vote to call this person to be the Senior Pastor as of June, 2009. Pastor McDugle will retain the mantle of Senior Pastor until his resignation is effective. We would like for the Associate Pastor (Future Senior Pastor) to hire his own Youth Pastor late in 2008 or early 2009.

Description of responsibilities:

Initial duties:

Equip people for service.
Responsibility for assigned ministries (budgeting, operation and leadership development). Ministries to include Christian Education and Youth. Others will be added as transition progresses.
Classroom teaching and occasional preaching from the pulpit.

Additional duties as of 6/1/09:

Leadership responsibility for all the ministries of the church. Leadership includes ensuring ongoing ministry effectiveness as well as vision, strategy, planning, leadership development and budgeting.
Pulpit preaching ministry of the church and planning of worship service themes.
Administration responsibilities including direct supervision of the church staff and managing the administration budgets.

Qualifications:

Primary qualifications: See I Tim 3:1-7
A minimum of a Masters of Divinity from a biblically-based evangelical seminary.
Experience leading a local church.
Other desirable attributes: Leadership, Skill in Preaching and Teaching, Excellent relationships with God and People, Sound in Doctrine, Missions Minded, Focus on community evangelism, Discipler, Loves People
